Little Bird Song Series: Orange-Feathered Hand-Painted Plate

How did such unique little birds come to be? I can't quite explain it myself. That's because I always work spontaneously, without prior sketches or preliminary drawings. I find it rather tedious and uninspiring to work from a blueprint. More importantly, it stifles the joy that comes from spontaneous inspiration. I begin with only a vague idea in mind – perhaps to paint a bird, or a flower – and face the white plate, immersing myself in the moment. Then, all sorts of forms spontaneously emerge. I select them based on whether they seem interesting, and that's how the piece is completed. Therefore, I never know what will appear. I don't fixate on the outcome. It's the dynamism, the new discoveries, the surprises, and the encounters that I find so enjoyable about this process. Earthenware, being made from clay, can appear more rustic in person compared to its image. However, this initial impression soon gives way as you become accustomed to it, and the real beauty—its texture and rustic charm—begins to feel just right.
