This pendant originates from France in the 1890s, reimagined from a watch bridge component made of brass. The Chinese term "陀輪" (tuólún), translating to "coq de montre" in French (and "watch bridge" in English), is an archaic term for a pocket watch movement part. Invented in the 1490s, pocket watches featured this component positioned above the movement to ensure balance and prevent damage from movement and shaking. These parts were exclusively produced between the 15th and 19th centuries and were entirely hand-engraved. The intricacy of the "coq de montre" varied according to the pocket watch's price; museum-grade components were often adorned with designs of animals, portraits, or landscapes. The watch bridge features a variety of exquisite and distinctive floral designs, with motifs resembling both waves and palm leaves. This symmetrical pattern exudes a sense of fluid motion. Near the top, by the bail, the grooved lines and the base plate reveal an original floral basket motif. After being repurposed for this pendant, the overall form remarkably resembles a vase.
