Variety - Taiyo Sakura (大漁櫻) Considered a large-flowered, single-petal cherry blossom. Its color leans towards red, named for its resemblance to the rosy hue of Japanese Sakura-dai (sea bream). Opens as a pale pink, gradually deepening to a rich red as the bloom fades. A naturally occurring variant of the Oshima cherry, with a delicate fragrance. The cherry fruits are blackish-purple spheres with a slightly sweet taste. Grafted 4 years ago, it exhibits faster growth than the Kan-zakura. The lower graft point is now inconspicuous, with the scion covering it, signifying a return to the original rootstock.
