Kiriko glass made by independent Kiriko glass artist Saito Hikaru.
We learned the secret techniques of hand polishing at an Edo Kiriko workshop that was founded over 100 years ago, and even though we consider the productivity and profitability of the technique low, we value the tradition and want to deliver authentic Kiriko to our users, so we also value the technique of hand polishing.

We took the fourth rock glass design and adjusted it to fit a tumbler, making it look beautiful.
Since the basic structure of the design was done, I thought it would be easy to move on to the cutting process, but it turned out to be quite difficult because the surface area and canvas size of rock glasses and tumblers are completely different.
The design is made up of complex interwoven lines at different angles.
The difference in the surface area of the glass and the size of the canvas is fatal, making it impossible to simply replicate the same design.
I struggled with it for a few hours, taking breaks in between, but then I had a flash of inspiration and managed to come up with a neat solution.
It took as long as if I had designed it from scratch.
My initial concept was to create an inexpensive design with alternating vertical lines running from the top and bottom, but then I had the idea of a design in which the lines gradually widen, as shown in the note below, and that became the basis of the design.
I wanted to express the feeling of light shining through the clouds and spreading out.
Divide the whole into 24 equal parts, and decrease the slope for each adjacent line.
・X=0
・Y=6X
・Y=3X
・Y=2X
・Y=X
It is a masterpiece design with a complex web of straight lines at different angles that are intertwined, yet the overall design is harmonious and beautiful.
When we originally made the prototype, the angles of each line were slightly different, making it difficult for them to pass through the same intersections, and the lines ended up passing over each other in a jumbled manner, which made the design a failure.
However, the design idea itself was interesting, so I had a strong desire to somehow complete this theme, and kept looking at the prototype.
And then,
"A line that intersects with other lines quite neatly."
"A line that doesn't neatly intersect with other lines"
It turns out that exists.
So I decided to first scrape off the lines that intersect with other lines fairly neatly, and then adjust the lines that don't intersect with other lines neatly to make them look neater.
In order to make a clean cut, you need to carefully identify which lines intersect with other lines and also consider the order in which you cut all of the lines.
However, after several prototypes, all the previously messy lines finally fell into place, resulting in a neat and tidy design that turned out to be very good.
The bottom is divided into 12 equal parts which are connected to the cuts on the sides.
When the lines on the bottom and sides are connected, the design feels unified when viewed from above, creating a more overwhelming sense of beauty than cut glass with separate designs for the bottom and sides.
Most other Edo Kiriko craftsmen
・It's too much work, so I don't bother to do it.
・They don't understand logically what it means to look beautiful.
・I don't have that idea
Therefore, a design that connects the bottom and sides is quite rare.
Beautiful and well-designed Kiriko
・It is difficult to understand what structure it has at first glance.
・Anything that is composed as a whole
I believe there is a requirement for this.
The Sunrise Tumbler is a masterpiece with a design that meets all of these criteria.
The Kiriko pieces produced at our workshop are unique and feature a wide variety of interesting designs, but we feel that these are among the best.
As the creator, I am also very excited about being able to create such a good design.
Despite this, we have made efforts to significantly increase the cutting speed and reduce the amount of time required, so we have succeeded in keeping the price relatively low compared to our other tumbler items.
We hope you will consider purchasing this one-of-a-kind Kiriko for yourself, as a gift, or as a retirement gift.
