This plant, often seen in Japan around springtime, reveals heart shapes within its leaves upon closer inspection. As the warm season arrives and green meadows emerge, encountering shepherd's purse brings a sense of joy. It's a scene we've long wished to capture in a design. The name "shepherd's purse" in Japan comes from the gentle "pen pen" sound produced when the plant is rubbed between the palms. As children, we often played, making this sound. The fabric is dyed with indigo using a traditional Indian Kalamkari technique called "dabu printing," a mud-resist dyeing method that prevents the color from penetrating certain areas. These wide-leg pants feature a beautiful silhouette that resembles a skirt when worn. With pockets on both sides, they are designed to look charming even when your top is tucked in. They can also be worn in cooler seasons by layering with leggings or other undergarments. Over time and with wear, the color will naturally fade, developing a unique, soft patina.
