In the local Guaraní language, Ñandutí means "spider web." True to its name, it is a delicate handicraft made from thread. A base warp is set up, and then other threads are woven or knotted to create intricate patterns. The embroidery is starched and stiffened, and once the embroidered sections are detached from the fabric, the Ñandutí piece is complete. The texture is quite crisp and firm, maintaining its shape while retaining the soft feel of the threads. When fashioned into accessories, the characteristic lace-like transparency of Ñandutí is exceptionally charming. ✼••┈┈┈┈••✼••┈┈┈┈••✼ We envisioned earrings that would fully allow one to enjoy the unique gradients of Ñandutí, and so, to enhance the gradient's appeal, we chose a contrasting color scheme (ecru for the warp threads, red for the weft threads) and a firm weaving technique, extending the weft threads almost to the very edge of the motif. The two rows of beads meticulously woven along the hem of the motif add a lovely touch. Two types of beads are used: those with a metallic sheen and semi-transparent white beads.
