Ñandutí, meaning "spider web" in the indigenous Guarani language, lives up to its name with its delicate, web-like construction from thread. A base warp is set up, and then another thread is woven or knotted to create the patterns. The embroidery is starched and stiffened, and then the embroidered section is carefully detached from the base fabric to complete the Ñandutí piece. The finished pieces have a somewhat crisp texture, maintaining their shape with moderate firmness while retaining the soft feel of the thread. When made into accessories, the distinctive lace-like translucency of Ñandutí is exceptionally charming. ✼••┈┈┈┈••✼••┈┈┈┈••✼ We desired earrings that would fully capture the unique gradients of Ñandutí, so we chose a contrasting color scheme to enhance the gradient effect (the warp threads are off-white, and the weft threads are red). The weaving technique is quite firm, with weft threads woven right up to the very edge of the motif. Two rows of beads adorning the hem of the motif add a charming touch.
