Liuyuezhai Imprint_Respect

Jingshen, imitating Ding Jing, is suitable as a signature seal for calligraphy and painting, or as a bookmark seal. Respecting the body means respecting oneself. The Book of Rites records a conversation between Duke Ai of Lu and Confucius. The Duke asked, "May I ask what is meant by respecting oneself?" Confucius replied, "If a gentleman speaks too much, the people will make excuses; if he acts too much, the people will follow his example. If a gentleman does not speak more than words and does not act more than his example, the people will respect him without being told. In this way, he will be able to respect himself; if he respects himself, he will be able to be close to his parents." Confucius expounded the meaning and method of respecting oneself. Confucius believed that the words and deeds of a gentleman should be moderate, neither too exaggerated nor too indulgent, so that the people will naturally respect them. Only by respecting oneself can one achieve the reputation of one's parents. A gentleman should set an example, and his words and deeds should be appropriate and not excessive. Only in this way can he win the respect of the people and enhance the reputation of his parents. "To correct others, you must correct yourself first. Only when you correct yourself can you teach others and benefit your family."
