Featuring a speckled pattern and a reddish-yellow tone like milk tea, this Mikage clay has a natural, rustic texture that adds depth and character. We've used this unique clay to craft this rice bowl. A brushstroke pattern in white slip adorns the upper part of the bowl, finished simply with a transparent glaze over the entire surface. The rim of the bowl is accented with an amber-colored glaze.
This bowl is notably larger than a standard rice bowl, allowing you to serve generous portions of rice. It's also perfect for dishes like zosui (rice porridge) or tamago kake gohan (rice with raw egg), which have a higher moisture content. It can also serve as a small donburi bowl, or be used to present simmered seasonal vegetables. We hope you enjoy it with a variety of rice dishes.
All stages of the pottery-making process—from kneading the clay to shaping, bisquing, glazing, and firing—are done by hand in my studio, which is equipped with a small electric kiln and a potter's wheel. While mass production isn't possible, each piece has its own unique character for you to appreciate. Due to the nature of the clay, this rice bowl is slightly heavier than others.
The item you receive will be the same as pictured. Please expect minor imperfections such as small stone explosions or cracks (that do not affect usability) and uneven surfaces, which are a natural characteristic of the coarse clay particles. We do our best to sand down any noticeable rough spots on the base and edges that might catch on surfaces or your hands.
We explore various glazes and clays, constantly seeking the best combinations, and create pottery in a wide range of colors and shapes. Each piece is unique and cannot be replicated exactly—they are similar but one-of-a-kind. We would be delighted if you could find a piece that speaks to you.
We hope you can enjoy the warm atmosphere created by the interplay of Mikage clay and white slip as a touch of color in your daily life.

*Water Sealing Treatment*
As pottery is naturally absorbent, and color may stain through crazing or moisture may seep through, we apply a water-sealing treatment to all our ceramic pieces before shipping.
Bowls that have undergone this treatment do not require further sealing at home. After a light wash, they are ready for immediate use.
Items already treated will be shipped within 3 days. Items requiring treatment after your order is placed will be shipped within 5 days.
- Sealing Agent Name: Flip Coat

(You can find more detailed information by searching the sealing agent name online.)
-----
- Due to the characteristics of the glaze color, the bowl may appear whiter under morning light or white fluorescent lighting, and show more reddish and yellowish tones under evening light or warm lighting.
- Cutlery shown in the product images is not included.
- We strive to photograph and edit product images to be as true to life as possible. However, please be aware that colors may appear differently depending on your monitor settings and the lighting conditions.
- As this item is also sold on other platforms, in the rare event of overlapping purchases, the item will be shipped to the customer who completed the purchase process first. We appreciate your understanding.
- While you can use this bowl in a microwave (for reheating purposes) and a dishwasher, the vibrations from microwaves and the high-pressure spray of hot water may accelerate its deterioration. We recommend using them sparingly.
- Please refrain from using this bowl in an oven or over direct heat.
- After use, please wash thoroughly and ensure it is completely dry before storing it in your cupboard to prevent stains and mold.
