We are often asked, "What's the difference between shuttle embroidery and regular machine embroidery?" Regular machine embroidery is done by a machine that reads an embroidery pattern and stitches it automatically. Therefore, all embroideries are uniform and identical. On the other hand, "shuttle embroidery" is a craft where an artisan moves the fabric while stitching the embroidery pattern. Because it is made by a person, each piece has a different expression. No two embroideries are alike, and the finished embroidery has a texture that makes it look like hand embroidery. It's an amazing craftsmanship that involves transferring the sketch to the fabric and stitching while looking at the original drawing, coordinating the up and down movement of the sewing machine needle – just imagining it is incredible. Currently, there are only about 400 people in Vietnam who can do shuttle embroidery. However, only about 50 of them can do it as a profession.
