What captured my heart at first sight were the clasped purses made by kimono artisans themselves. Mr. Nakamura, a reserved yet graceful teacher, has retired from the kimono-making profession, but he continues to create clasped purses designed with the kimono fabrics he has loved his entire life. 【Premium Kimono Tsumugi Series】 The spirit of lifelong dedication by the artisan is fully evident in the details and material selection. This piece features the rare 'Oshima Tsumugi'. This kimono textile from Ōshima-Tsumugi, Japan, is made by first dyeing the silk threads with mineral mud and then weaving them into fabric. The intricate process involves twenty to thirty steps, and today, only a few artisans carry on this tradition, making it increasingly scarce. In Japan, it is used for crafting high-end kimonos. - 'Oshima Tsumugi' is characterized by its understated yet elegant, low-saturation patterns that are highly durable and exceptionally well-suited for modern daily wear.
