It is native to central Mexico. Notably, its genus name "Coryphantha" originates from Greek words meaning "flowering on the top." It features a glossy, deep green globular body, reaching a height of 14 cm and a width of 20 cm. Prominent, large, rounded tubercles grow from the base, which are not ribbed. White to grayish-white woolly hairs are found between the areoles. The areoles are located at the tip of the tubercles, bearing strong, stout spines arranged radially in groups of seven or eight. | Flowering | The Ivory Ball Cactus can produce flowers in shades of pink, purple, white, and yellow. It is said that the flowers have a fragrance! There is significant cultivation of the Ivory Ball Cactus, with distinctions such as strong-spined, short-spined, and robust-spined varieties. Japanese breeders have developed many cultivars. | Sunlight Environment | In its native habitat, cacti typically grow in arid, hot regions. However, prolonged direct sunlight can cause sunburn or color changes in cacti, potentially turning them brown or red. While this can enhance their vibrancy, it may also slow or halt their growth as they adapt to harsher conditions. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid prolonged direct sunlight and provide adequate shade. If grown indoors, ensure at least 4 hours of sunlight daily to prevent etiolation (stretching). If grown outdoors, even if it enjoys sunlight, provide necessary shading during the summer to prevent sunburn on the globular body. Sunburn scars are irreversible. | Soil | Cacti thrive in dry environments. In humid conditions, water can accumulate in the soil, leading to root rot. Ensure good ventilation. | Temperature | The optimal growing temperature is between 18-28°C. The minimum winter temperature should not drop below 6°C, and it can tolerate temperatures up to approximately 40°C. | Watering | Watering should only be withheld when temperatures drop below 3°C. In Taiwan's climate, the key is to manage watering in winter (without complete cessation) and provide ample water and sunlight in summer! For outdoor cultivation, water thoroughly once every 1-2 weeks in the evening; in winter, water approximately once every 3-4 weeks.
