American Eastan B6 flight jacket

Standardized in 1939, the B6 flight jacket is a lightweight alternative to the B3 and is classified as an "intermediate zone" flight garment. Constructed from 1/4" sheepskin, it is designed to fill the gap between the light A2 and the heavier B3 that are often not warm enough. It was especially popular among fighter pilots before and early in the war. Earlier fighters were not heated (the P-38 was particularly cold), so some kind of insulating jacket had to be used. So it can be worn without A5 sheepskin trousers and still provide adequate coverage for the lower back and waist.
