"Autumn Swordfish" Issue 22: Special Feature 〈Taiwan-Japan Romance LOVELOVE〉 In an era when Japanese dramas could only be watched live on television, following a series was akin to confessing feelings via a handwritten letter—requiring precise timing, attentive viewing, sharing in tears and laughter, and the regret of missing out. A review of 30 years of Japanese dramas not only condenses the evolution of Japanese society but also deeply conveys Japanese values on "love" to Asian countries. After all, the most captivating cities often become so because of love stories. While each person may have watched different dramas and remembers distinct scenes, the relationships depicted in these twosomes have become exemplary, offering insights into the core of Japanese culture. As some might still hold stereotypical views of dominant Japanese men and demure housewives, Japan has moved from the "hunting generation" keen on matchmaking to a "sexless" "enlightenment generation," some even abandoning the pursuit of "love." This prompts our curiosity: do the differences in romance between Taiwan and Japan ignite unique sparks in their respective cultures? This issue comprehensively analyzes various facets, from values on romance and cross-cultural couples in Taiwan and Japan to the influential dramas and music, even extending to fashion and interpersonal physical interactions. Surprisingly, we discovered that between Taiwan and Japan, with their frequent exchanges and cultural interactions, values concerning relationships, money, and life have gradually merged. More important than "where one comes from" is how to maintain individuality within a relationship and the often-spoken words of love. As winter approaches, this special issue on "love" is also like a love letter to Taiwan. Regardless of gender or age, whether single or in a relationship, the way we express love is something we can all be proud of.
