The "72%" refers to the composition of the soap: out of 100g of oils, 72g is olive oil. Olive oil is rich in phytosterols, which have moisturizing properties, help repair sun-damaged tissues, hydrate dry skin, and provide soothing relief. Olive oil is a primary source of plant-derived squalane. Squalane is the most abundant lipid secreted by skin cells, moisturizing the skin, preventing moisture loss, and acting like a natural emollient and protectant. **72% Marseille Soaps, or 100% pure olive oil soaps (Grandmother's Soap), contain a high proportion of olive oil. The sodium oleate within can cause a slight, translucent gel-like consistency when the soap meets water. This is normal and does not affect its use. We recommend storing the soap in a well-draining soap dish or lathering bag after use to allow it to dry thoroughly and prevent it from softening too quickly.
