Cinnabar Care The primary component of cinnabar is mercuric sulfide, but it often contains impurities like realgar and apatite. It is susceptible to dissolution and color loss upon contact with water. Furthermore, prolonged immersion in water can cause disintegration if the texture is loose. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to water during wear. Cinnabar should also be kept away from direct flame, as direct burning will cause it to turn black. Additionally, if cinnabar is heated above 180 degrees Celsius in an oxygenated environment, it will undergo partial oxidation, releasing a small amount of mercury.
