1950s French Old Nib Gilbert Caducee N. 81 Dip Pen Nib

Produced by the French Gilbert & Blanzy-Poure nib factory in the 1950s. The Caducee N. 81 is made of a bronze alloy with excellent flexibility. Writing line variation from EF to M is very controllable, ideal for English calligraphy. It can also be used for writing Chinese characters; just pay a little attention at the turns to prevent ink blobbing. Reference: The ink used in the photos is by Staedtler (not shellac ink). The paper used is Rhodia (smooth and highly water-resistant). A Note on Old/Antique Nibs vs. Modern Nibs: Thicker metal, finer craftsmanship. Made with original metal (not plated), easy to start writing with and requires no long break-in period. Higher ink capacity, more durable in comparison. Important Usage Precautions: 1. No need to flame or scrub with a toothbrush before use. 2. Some nibs may have original horizontal or vertical polishing marks from the factory, intended for immediate use after purchase, not defects. 3. If oil contamination affects ink adhesion or flow (e.g., from touching with hands or wax on paper), simply wash gently with soap, rinse, and dry before use. 4. Wash and dry as soon as possible after use, allow to air dry before storing to prevent rust. 5. Minor rust on the pen body does not affect writing, but rust on the nib does.
