In reality, gem-grade corundum found in nature, apart from red stones called rubies, includes various colors such as blue, light blue, green, yellow, gray, and colorless, all termed sapphire or fancy sapphire, indicated by adding the color name before sapphire, like pink sapphire. The chemical composition of sapphire is Al2O3, primarily colored by Fe and Ti. The presence of trace elements like iron (Fe) and titanium (Ti) in corundum results in blue, sky blue, and light blue hues. Among these, a royal blue that is deep but not black, and cornflower blue, are considered the finest. When cut en cabochon and containing three sets of inclusions oriented parallel to the base, producing a beautiful six-rayed asterism, it is called a "star sapphire."
