From the perspective of cultural studies, this book studies the development and situation of Hong Kong films in recent years, and explores the different attempts and dilemmas of film texts, film workers and the film industry. Through reading Hong Kong films from multiple perspectives, this book focuses specifically on the struggle and exploration of Hong Kong’s local identity in global transnational films and cross-border productions in Greater China. In an atmosphere of depression and decline, this industry still has amazing flexibility and vitality. Is Hong Kong cinema now in the twilight of its twilight, or is it in the midst of a rebirth? This book hopes to present the complexity, and also hopes to re-explore the relationship between film and society from a micro and local perspective, and present the significance and potential of Hong Kong culture. This updated edition includes two new chapters discussing Hong Kong's independent film culture and the significance of the boundary between China and Hong Kong. It also updates some basic information and provides a more detailed overview of the impact of the development of the Chinese film market in recent years on Hong Kong films.

"When Huang Jingfu, Chen Guo and even the Milky Way image are becoming invisible, Peng Lijun continues the belief that the sunset is infinitely beautiful with umbrellas and cross-border movies between China and Hong Kong. Don't be divided by the ups and downs - remember the city of fragrance."
─Tang Zhenzhao, writer and senior film critic
"Although this book is about post-1997 Hong Kong films, it also attempts to open a dialogue with local discussions in recent years. The author advocates replacing "time" or "generations" with "place" and "transcendence" in the context of globalization It is very enlightening to discuss Hong Kong identity. "
─Xiao Xi, Hong Kong cultural commentator
"Peng Lijun's "It's Not Late" implements her years of focus on reproduction, performance and subjectivity, lays out various cultural theories, and links Jackie Chan's crossover to the dynamic city, Huang Jingfu's "failure", Chen Guo's ghostly freedom, etc. Hong Kong film culture phenomenon. This book is compatible with a cross-regional cultural perspective and examines Hong Kong in the context of transnational flows. The two additional chapters also continue this dialogue between the local and the trans-local. If you want to understand Hong Kong's post-1997 films, "It's Not Too Late" will definitely bring a different perspective. "
─Eno Tam, writer, lecturer at HKBU School of Film
"When I read the first edition of this book, I already felt that the discussion was profound and pertinent. Eight years later, as the author said, most of the analysis in the book has not become outdated. The two chapters added to the new edition explore the new direction of Hong Kong films from different angles. Looking back now, "It's Not Too Late" is not only a beautiful vision, but also a visionary one."
─Chu Yiu-wai, Professor, School of Modern Languages and Cultures, University of Hong Kong, Director of the Hong Kong Studies Program
