Driftwood may release dark brown tannins into the water, which may affect water clarity but is harmless to fish. Please soak in clean water for several extra days. 3. For the best living environment, stock one 1cm fish per liter of water. Do not overstock, as this can lead to oxygen deprivation and death. 4. Do not overfeed. Uneaten food will rot, affect water quality, and promote bacteria growth. 5. Change the water regularly—replace 1/3 or 1/2 of the water at a time using tap water that has been set aside overnight, pouring it in slowly. 6. Ensure the temperature of the new water is the same as the old; sudden temperature changes can cause fish to contract white spot disease and die. 7. If algae grows on the landscape, remove and soak in clean water for several days with a small amount of bleach or baking soda to restore it.
