【Synopsis】
This is a new edition of "Leave a Window in Your Life for Yourself," featuring a new Chapter 5, "Sincerity Begins with a Small Step Underfoot, a Small Change in Life." In the preface to this new edition, the author shares: "When I first set out to write this book, I did so with a sense of experimentation, hoping to share my exploration and reflection on 'truth,' 'true self,' and 'living truthfully' with everyone. I never expected it to resonate with so many people. For this new edition, I wanted to bring even more inspiration and strength to readers, so I've intentionally included ten personal experiences from my own journey of facing challenges and making choices, in an attempt to live with sincerity and respond to life's deepest desires. I believe these experiences are not just my story, but possibly yours too, because authenticity is the deepest calling within everyone's heart."
To conform to the expectations of parents, superiors, and the general public, we often abandon our true selves, gradually losing the ability to listen to our own voices. We become strangers to ourselves, only knowing what the external environment demands of us, forgetting how precious this "self" truly is.
Finding and living out your true self sometimes requires going against the grain. Your parents may oppose your pursuit of a low-paying but dream job. Your academic advisor might discourage you from researching a niche subject. Friends might laugh at your idealistic yet financially unrewarding career choice. How you navigate these differing opinions and muster the courage to step forward is a consideration that comes with a price.
Moving from self-estrangement to the manifestation of your true self requires courage and a willingness to pay a price, but leaving a window in your life for yourself is undoubtedly worthwhile.
Dr. Au Yeung Cheung Keung's latest work guides readers through reading, reflection, and exercises, from losing oneself to revealing the true self. Reconciling with oneself is a lesson everyone needs to learn.
