Setup Shuffle all cards face down. Deal cards according to the number of players: 12 cards each for 2 players, 9 cards each for 3 players, and 7 cards each for 4 players. Then, turn over 3 cards and place them face up on the table. These are the starting cards for each row. Each row can hold a maximum of 5 cards, including the starting card. Set aside the remaining cards; they will not be used in this round. Prepare a pen and paper for scoring. Right Column Figure 1: Placement of the 3 starting cards before the game begins. Gameplay A. Playing Cards Each player chooses one card from their hand and places it face down in front of them. Once all players have chosen their card, everyone reveals their card simultaneously. The player with the lowest card number plays their card first by placing it into one of the rows on the table. Then, the player with the next lowest card plays, and so on, until all players have placed their card for the round. Repeat this process until all players have played all cards from their hands. How to place cards correctly? Each card can only be placed in one of the rows on the table, following these rules: Rule 1: Ascending Order Within each row on the table, the numbers on the cards must increase from left to right. Rule 2: Closest Value You must place your card to the right of the row whose top card is the highest number less than your card's number. Figure 2: Three players play cards 5, 8, and 17 in order. Only 5 and 8 can be placed in the first row, and 17 must be placed in the second row. B. Taking Cards If your card can be placed into any row according to the rules, everything is fine. However, if the row you need to place your card in is full, or if your card cannot be placed into any of the existing rows, you must take cards from the table! P.2 Right Page Rule 3: Full Row Each row on the table can hold a maximum of 5 cards. According to the rules above, if you must place a card as the 6th card in a row, you must first pick up the previous 5 cards from that row. Then, place your card on the table to become the new starting card for that row. Figure 3: Three players play cards 9, 12, and 16 in order. 9 and 12 are placed in the first row. The first row now has five cards and is full. The player who played 16 can only place it in the first row. They must first take the previous five cards, and 16 becomes the new starting card for the first row. Rule 4: Card Too Low If your card's number is too low to be placed in any row, you must choose a row, take all the cards from that row, and place your card on the table to become the new starting card for that row. The cards you are forced to take are placed face down in front of you, forming your "penalty pile." Figure 4: Three players play cards 3, 10, and 22 in order. 3 cannot be placed in any row. The player who played 3 must choose a row, take all cards from that row, and place 3 as the new starting card for that row. In this case, they choose to take the 20 from the third row and place 3 as the new starting card. 10 is then placed in the third row, and 22 in the second row. Game End When all cards have been played, the round ends. Each player counts the number of penalty cards in their penalty pile. Each penalty card is worth -1 point. Record each player's score on paper. Shuffle all cards again, deal them according to the number of players, and start a new round. After three rounds, the player with the lowest total score wins.
