Peace
"Actually, I just want to be affirmed."
After graduating from junior high, he became a乩童 (spirit medium) at the temple.
Only when he was in a trance could he feel "respected."
He tried to escape the inferiority complex caused by the physical abuse from his biological father and the verbal abuse from his stepfather.
But in the quiet of the night, a sense of emptiness constantly gnawed at him.
Do you know how sheep get lost?
When they finish eating the grass in front of them,
they see another patch nearby and walk over to eat it,
ending up wandering further and further away.
At this point, the shepherd would pick up small stones
and throw them at the sheep that were straying too far.
The sheep might feel pain, but it could wake them up.
Perhaps your "grass" is
"a better and bigger car,"
"affirmation from your boss,"
"posting enviable travel photos,"
"getting your child into a good school to be a good mother."
Ultimately, you will find that by chasing "the affirmation of others,"
you will forever be at their beck and call,
your life uncomfortably pelted by "small stones."
There will always be wealthier people to envy,
you might torment yourself in a toxic company for a supervisor's praise,
the number of likes on your posts will never equate to your self-worth,
and you might neglect your relationships in your pursuit of getting your child into a prestigious school.
You are lost,
unable to find the direction of true happiness.
Until, the shepherd called this sheep.
One day, he received a church flyer and felt an unprecedented peace during a gathering.
He pointed out that most traditional beliefs are self-serving,
with each family praying for their own affairs.
But at church,
the pastor didn't mind his smoky breath and focused on spreading the gospel for God.
What power, then,
led these pastors, who didn't chase the "grass" of the world,
to become shepherds instead?
Because the pastors' "grass" is not "the affirmation of others,"
but the discovery of the direction of truth.
They learned to see themselves through God's eyes,
falling in love with their original design.
Instead of attaching labels given by others to themselves.
When you accept yourself,
knowing that you are loved even when you do nothing,
"peace" will follow.
We no longer toil and worry about finding grass to eat,
but instead, we enjoy every step of "peace" on the green pastures.
It is because we believe in Him,
that He will lead us.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
Psalm 23:1-2
