Copper was material of choice of the Beat Generation - the “beatniks”. non-conformists of the 50s. Francisco Rebajes was the iconic creator of copper jewelry from East Coast of America, and Renoir - from West Coast. In 1922 he came to New York from the Dominican Republic. The first "exhibition" of Rebajes' work took place in front of his Greenwich Village home, where he was huddled in the basement and his sculptures, created from empty cans from cat food, were displayed on an ironing board. All works were purchased by the curator of the Whitney Museum in 1967. In the 50s, Rebajes jewelry became incredibly popular. A large Rebajes boutique with futuristic design has opened in NY on the corner of 5th Avenue and 37th Street. Since 1967 Rebajes devoted himself entirely to sculpture and no longer created jewelry. Therefore, Rebajes jewelry is very rare and highly collectible. Renoir - Author: Jerry Fells Jerry Fells' copper art house works are very recognizable. In 1946, Fells opened his studio in Los Angeles. In 1952, the second brand was founded - Matisse - copper jewelry coated with colored enamels.
