Hakka Yamato Flowers: The Fingertips of Young Women Through the Seasons - A Dedicated Book

Spanning over a decade of immersive research in Hakka villages, this work meticulously documents century-old artifacts, interviews descendants of families who preserved Hakka Yamato flower dowries, cultural historians, and collectors. Through people, events, places, and these precious objects, readers are invited to glimpse the little-known world of Hakka women's needlework from the Qing Dynasty to the Japanese colonial era. Through dozens of exquisite and rare images, accompanied by insightful textual explanations, we aim to introduce readers to a facet of Hakka culture beyond the well-known "Four Stews and Four Stir-fries," indigo dyeing, and the virtues of diligence and frugality. This book reveals the brilliant and intricate artistry found in the delicate "head of a needle, tail of a thread."
