Handwoven Silk Scarf [Saiun *08] Materials: 80% Silk, 20% Wool Size: Approx. 20cm x 140cm (excluding 8cm fringe) This small scarf is handwoven using high-quality raw silk sourced from a Nishijin, Kyoto silk thread wholesaler. The silk is then dyed in various colors before being woven. The scarf features a plaid design using three colors of silk thread and wool, originally woven to a larger size. It was then felted, shrinking it to approximately half its original size. As only the wool shrinks, leaving the silk unaffected, a unique, puffy texture emerges. The warp and weft threads blend together, creating a rich, layered color effect. With a fine density of 464 warp threads, and using lightly twisted, semi-scoured (degummed) silk threads for dyeing, the scarf offers a smooth, crisp texture, unlike the limp feel of fully degummed silk. Silk scarves are excellent at moisture absorption and release, as well as heat retention. Despite its small size, this scarf is plump and warm, perfect for styling snugly around the neck or draping over the shoulders.
