The Old Goat edition specifically selects the burl portions of the briar wood, offering a luster similar to premium car interior wood trim. However, briar wood inevitably features natural "black spots." As it's sourced from the burl, each piece will have these to varying degrees. The patterns turned from the burl are intricate and beautiful. Through numerous rounds of spraying, sanding, and polishing, the pen achieves a particularly substantial feel. Under the high-definition, high-gloss transparent lacquer, the texture is further enhanced. This high-definition, high-gloss treatment makes it easy to maintain, resistant to ink or hand sweat, and makes the wood grain appear more three-dimensional. Most pens on the market are finished by polishing or waxing raw wood; such elaborate treatments are exceedingly rare. (Briar wood has unique black spots and natural grain patterns; high-quality pieces are shipped randomly.) The pen is accessorized with components turned from solid brass, finished with a gunmetal plating. It features a rotating airtight cap and a specially designed flexible clip mechanism.
