Italian briarwood, typically used for pipe making, is a key material for the Old Goat special edition, utilizing the burl sections. This offers a luster akin to high-end car interior wood trim, though briarwood naturally has unavoidable "black spots." As it's sourced from burls, each piece will have these to some degree. The wood from burls, when turned, reveals intricate and magnificent patterns. Through numerous coats of paint, sanding, and polishing, it achieves a particularly substantial feel. Under the high-definition, high-gloss transparent lacquer, the texture is further enhanced. The high-definition, high-gloss treatment ensures easy maintenance, resisting ink stains and sweat, and making the wood grain appear more three-dimensional. Most pens on the market are finished with simple polishing or waxing after turning the raw wood; such intensive processing is exceptionally rare. The pen is accessorized with custom-turned brass components, finished with a gunmetal plating. It features a twist-action airtight cap and a specially designed spring-loaded clip. The nib is a German Bock #250 (#6) standard titanium nib, hand-tuned by Old Goat artisans into a calligraphy nib capable of producing varying line widths. For calligraphy nibs, it's generally recommended to first dip the nib in ink and use it for a while to break it in before using a converter. 2. If the ink flow stops when using a converter, check the angle of your grip. Both iridium points should land on the paper simultaneously; avoid writing with one side only. If ink flow still stops, check if paper fibers or debris are stuck on the nib. 3. Remove the converter and try filling the pen directly with ink. 4. Wash the nib first. If you write with one iridium point consistently or apply excessive pressure, it can easily cause the iridium points to misalign, creating a height difference between them. This can lead to scratching the paper and accumulating paper debris in the gap. 5. Calligraphy nibs are adjusted EF tips with a curved profile. Line width variation is achieved by the angle of the nib on the paper, not by pressing down. Holding the pen more upright reduces the contact area with the paper, resulting in finer lines. The more you tilt the pen, the larger the contact area, producing broader strokes. The ability to write thick or thin lines depends on your practice and skill.
