Mugwort emits a natural, unique aroma, offering comfort and tranquility. 2. The solid Mugwort is structured and stylish. 3. Purely handwoven from natural grasses, each strand and every piece is unique. ▶︎ Mugwort is a representative of Taiwan's natural fibers, offering a substantial feel and a unique fresh aroma. ▶︎ Its simple texture is its beauty, its rustic color is its charm. Each piece is nurtured with care and life; it has accompanied us through many moments, and will continue to accompany you through the years. ▶︎ Every strand of grass, every creation, possesses a unique appearance and color, just like us, each one is one-of-a-kind. ▶︎ Originally a Japanese term referring to a refining process to remove yellow stains from raw fabric, "Bai Lian" (白練) signifies purity and flawlessness. In Japan, white is also a sacred color associated with deities. (Original text adapted from "Lets Go! Japan") wwwwwwww https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48575609502_de06cfb324_b.jpg **|| Three Generations of Grass Aroma, Three Generations of Weaving ||** "Si Cyuan" is a natural grass handicraft weaving studio in Dajia, Taichung. In 1947, grandfather Guo Xi-Quan founded it with products woven from Taiwanese Mugwort. After the third generation joined, they named the studio after their grandfather, continuing his passion for weaving. At Si Cyuan, you'll find the third-generation weaver and her mother, along with indispensable grandmothers and aunts who deeply love weaving. Together, they preserve traditional culture and develop innovative designs. The third generation of Si Cyuan weaves the rich culture of their hometown, continuing authentic craftsmanship. The simple, natural texture is a gift from nature and an expression of their connection to home. With the intention of creating items they would use for their own families, they craft woven products like sun hats, bags, and home slippers using traditional techniques. wwwwwwww https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/52095081931_63202c460f_b.jpg **|| Taiwanese Mugwort (Schoenoplectus triqueter (L.) Palla) ||** | Nicknames Xi Cao (蓆草), Dajia Reed | Origin Central Taiwan - Lower reaches of the Da'an River, Dajia in Taichung, and the Yuanli area in Miaoli. | Characteristics Breathable and cooling Moisture-wicking And, of course, a unique natural grass aroma! Native to central Taiwan, Taiwanese Mugwort possesses a captivating natural fragrance. Mugwort was historically used primarily for weaving sleeping mats, hence its nickname "Xi Cao." It is highly absorbent, breathable, and smooth against the skin, offering a cool sensation upon touch. With continued use, it develops a beautiful sheen over time, embodying the essence of a well-lived life. Taiwan boasts nearly three hundred years of Mugwort weaving culture. Each item is meticulously handcrafted by local grandmothers and aunts, imbued with the spirit of Taiwan. **|| Mugwort Weaving Process ||** Growth | Takes 3-4 months to grow Drying | After harvesting, sun-dried for approximately 2-4 months until completely dry Trimming | Harvested reeds are sorted by length, and some tips are removed Selection | Reeds are chosen for uniform thickness before weaving Removing Leaf Sheaths | Leafy parts at the base of the reed are removed Beating | The structure of the reed is broken down to make it soft and pliable for weaving For more intricate items, two additional steps are involved: "Splitting" (dividing the triangular Mugwort reeds into two to three finer strands) and "Rubbing" (kneading to remove the white fibers from within the reed). **|| A Little Story About Taiwanese Mugwort ||** Grandmothers and mothers used to tell stories about how people would nurture their reeds. They particularly loved the "black gold" sheen of Mugwort, which typically developed with time and use. However, some people wanting to accelerate this transformation would specifically wipe the reeds with tea water to deepen their color. **| Returns and Exchanges** Each piece is meticulously handcrafted by experienced artisans with focused dedication.
