The red and white koi, named for its white body and red markings, is known for its strong swimming ability and high reproductive rate. It is also the longest-living variety of koi, making it a favorite among elders. The "Tanchō" koi, in particular, is highly cherished and is known as the "official's koi." Its entirely white body with a single red spot on its head makes it appear like a white dragon in motion and a crimson sun resting on water when still.
