Originating in Europe and later gaining popularity in Japan, preserved flowers are widely used in weddings and floral gifts, integrated into the art of floristry, and are a common household gift in Japan. Preserved flowers, also called everlasting flowers, literally mean blooms that will never wither. They are crafted from carefully selected, high-grade fresh flowers. Through a special dehydration and decolorization process, they are then immersed in a unique organic solution for coloring. This solution, which is harmless to the body, allows the flowers to maintain their fresh appearance and texture for years. While roses and hydrangeas are the most common, carnations, chrysanthemums, and many other varieties are also available. Most preserved flowers available locally are imported from Japan via air freight. The majority of preserved flower materials lack leaves and stems, requiring extensive handcrafting to assemble. Despite the intricate process, they have become a favored medium in the world of handmade art. Caring for Preserved Flowers - ★ No watering is required; simply keep them dry. ★ Avoid placing them in direct sunlight or humid environments to extend their lifespan. ★ With proper care, they can last 1-2 years or more. Over prolonged periods (3-5 years), the colors may gradually fade. ★ Minor petal breakage in preserved flower arrangements is sometimes unavoidable. Minimize touching them to reduce the chance of further damage. ★ If the flowers appear transparent, stained, or develop oil droplets, it indicates the environment is too humid. Avoid contact with fabrics or walls that may stain easily. ★ Over time, dust may accumulate on preserved flower arrangements. Periodically, gently remove dust using a soft brush or by using a hairdryer on a cool, low setting.
