The enamel on the surface is quite special, isn't it? It's a technique called Guilloché. Guilloché is an enameling craft achieved by processing metal on a lathe to form patterns, and then applying enamel over these patterns. Tracing back to the "rose engine" technique of the 17th century, it later gained popularity during the Victorian era and was applied to other materials, including banknotes and some toys. Guilloché is most commonly used to adorn watch dials, as well as enameled brooches and pendants. The result of the engine-turned application is that colorful hues are enhanced by the transparent enamel placed over the engraved surface. The metal, gold plating, and enamel are substantial and in good condition. There are minor, unidentifiable spots and fine lines, which do not affect its aesthetic appeal or usability.
