One day, Baleng wished to accompany the women up the mountain but got lost in the woods. Suddenly, she heard a nose flute sound from afar. Baleng discovered a handsome young man who said, "I am a youth from the serpent tribe. Our ancestors broke a taboo and were cursed, banished to become serpents. If you can see my true form, you shall be my wife." Baleng frequently visited the mountain youth thereafter, their songs enchanting even the birds and making the orchids smile. One day, a group of people arrived at Baleng's door, singing a proposal song. The handsome youth's family appeared to Baleng's family as nothing but hundred-pacer snakes.
