This vase is made using rough white china clay and celadon glaze, giving it a clay-like feel.
At the pottery in Fukuoka that I work with, firing takes place once a year in the noborigama kiln.
Noborigama is a type of wood-fired kiln that burns wood to cook food without using electricity, kerosene, or gas.
The temperature inside the furnace reaches as high as 1,300 degrees Celsius, and the molten glaze is covered with wood ash and the flame hits the base material, creating a landscape in each pottery that cannot be controlled by hand.
Kiln firing takes about a week or more from firing to taking out the kiln.
The taste that resides in each pottery is truly exceptional, and it speaks to the power of flame and the steady efforts and experience of the people who bring it out.
The celadon glaze used is an original glaze that the potter mixes himself.
When fired normally, it develops a bluish green color, but when fired in a wood-fired kiln, the appearance changes depending on the time.
The firing process gave it a glaze-like appearance and a dark blue-gray color.
A single flower vase was born out of such time and effort.
It was baked a few years ago and has been carefully stored, so of course it has never been used.
The rounded form is cute, and the unglazed clay surface gives it a ceramic-like feel.
We aim to create a vase that allows you to enjoy the simple, calm atmosphere and clean appearance typical of ceramics.
Using a variety of glazes and clays, I create a variety of pottery in a variety of colors and shapes while searching for the best combination.
It is impossible to make exactly the same items, and the vessels look similar and can be considered unique.
I would be very happy if you found something you like.
Please enjoy the taste and texture unique to a pottery baked over a wood fire.
