【What is "Roroma," Purely Domestic Nume Leather?】
It is oil-tanned leather, meticulously finished by a long-established tannery in Asakusa, Tokyo.
While many tanneries in Japan use hides imported from North America or Bangladesh, "Roroma" uses domestically sourced steerhide (adult cattle).
The leather is tanned using a full vegetable tanning process, and then each sheet is carefully finished by hand with a layer of wax.
Without the need for special care, the wax on the surface is polished through use,
creating a beautiful luster reminiscent of a jewel.
A distinctive feature is the "bloom," a unique surface texture of waxed leather.
This is when a white powdery wax appears on the surface, and as this wax is rubbed into the leather through friction or heat changes,
the color gradually deepens, and a soft sheen emerges.
*Please note that the depth of color and bloom on the surface will vary for each individual piece due to differences in individual hides, parts of the hide, and ambient temperature and humidity.
We appreciate your understanding.
【Customization Options Available】
Color changes, two-tone designs, added linings or pockets, and name engraving are all possible.
We can customize the bag to your specific preferences.
The price will vary depending on the requested customization, so please contact us if you are interested.

【What You Should Know When Choosing Genuine Leather Products】
Did you know that there are significant differences in the properties and prices of "genuine leather" products?
In reality, the prices of items labeled "genuine leather" vary widely.
While price differences are influenced by design and manufacturing processes, the cost of the leather material itself can sometimes differ by more than tenfold.
Why such a disparity? Here's why.
There are two main tanning methods for leather: "chrome tanning" and "vegetable tanning."
Currently, the mainstream leather circulating in the market is chrome-tanned, processed using chemical agents.
Chrome-tanned leather has the advantages of a relatively uniform surface finish, flexibility, and heat resistance.
It can also be produced in large quantities in a short time, making it cost-effective. However, conversely, it is a leather that shows little of the "aging process," which is a key appeal of genuine leather.
Scratches and stains from use remain as they are, appearing as "deterioration."
In other words, [chrome-tanned leather is a material suited for mass production, and it is at its most beautiful when it is finished.]
On the other hand, leather tanned using plant-based tannins is called "Nume leather."
Nume leather tanning is an ancient method. It retains the natural texture of the raw hide, and the surface is prone to showing natural scratches and vein marks, with varying textures depending on the part.
It takes a long time to produce, making it costly and not always a stable material. However, it is a leather where you can enjoy the "aging process," such as the changes in luster and the deepening of color over time.
[Nume leather is made using traditional methods that require time and cost, and it is a leather that doesn't reach its perfection upon purchase, but rather grows more cherished over a long period.]
Isn't the desire when choosing a leather product to have "a material that can be a long-term companion"?
[We want you to choose a leather that allows you to appreciate its changes over time, especially when investing in a leather product.]
With this philosophy in mind, KALEIDOSCOPE focuses exclusively on "Nume leather" for its creations.
【This is leather tanned with oil incorporated. Through friction during use, it polishes and develops a luster.]
You can enjoy its daily transformations.
As it already contains oil, please use it freely and often.
Even minor scratches will blend in and become less noticeable with the oil as you use it.
【Please refrain from purchasing if you are seeking a flawless leather product.]
We use natural leather. There may be natural scars and unevenness, so please understand that minor scratches are possible.
While they might be concerning if viewed as "scratches," they are a testament to the life this leather once had.
Enjoying these unique scratches and variations is part of the charm of handmade products and genuine Nume leather.
【Our Commitment to Hardware】
The hardware is made of solid brass (excluding the clasp).
Brass is considered a "metal that brings good luck" in Europe and America and was even used as an amulet. Like leather, it develops a richer character with age.
【Our Commitment to Craftsmanship】
*As much by hand as possible.
KALEIDOSCOPE is committed to crafting its products, from pattern making to leather cutting, with a focus on hand-cutting using self-sharpened leather knives whenever possible.
