The smoothly curved lines construct a harmonious and balanced vessel. The porcelain body of this vase is pure white like jade, with a thin and bright glaze. Flowing "tear marks" are visible on the surface. The overall pattern on the vase consists of lotus motifs, created using delicate carving techniques, displaying exquisite craftsmanship and lively, natural, and fluent lines. The Ding kiln ceramics originated in the Tang Dynasty and flourished during the Song Dynasty. The kiln site is located in Jianci Village, Quyang County, Hebei Province. Quyang County was part of Dingzhou during the Song Dynasty, hence the name Ding kiln. Ding kiln primarily produced white glazed porcelain but also fired ceramics with black glaze, soy glaze, green glaze, and other colored glazes. The Song Dynasty literary figure and artist Su Shi wrote in his poem "Dingzhou Flower Porcelain": 'Dingzhou flower porcelain, carved as red as jade.' The Yuan Dynasty literatus Liu Qi praised Ding kiln in his book "Returning to Seclusion," stating, 'Ding kiln flower porcelain vessels, the color is the whitest under the heavens.
