It resembles a plump, lustrous white teardrop, as if a tear had fallen from a brightly shining full moon. This is a meticulously polished Okinawa-sourced turban shell. The beautiful turban shell is embraced within a white peacock frame, as if cradling precious eggs. The turban shell's iridescent sheen and beautiful striped patterns are its highlights. While each piece has its own unique character, you can fully enjoy the beauty of any turban shell. The iridescent sheen is similar to the inside of an abalone shell, known as nacre. The thickness of the shell allows for a sense of depth in its luster. For this piece, it was crafted so that the blue-green hue does not appear on the surface, but it is said that a mystical blue-green, reminiscent of malachite, can emerge depending on where the shell is cut and how it is finished. This particular turban shell showcases delicate striped patterns and a white-like luster on its surface. A mystical blue-green, similar to malachite, appears on the sides and back. The contrast between white and blue-green might evoke the breathtaking landscape of Lençóis Maranhenses, Brazil's white desert... On about half of the back surface, a strong iridescent sheen appears depending on the angle of the light. While the turban shell cannot be removed from its setting by hand, we have provided photos taken before it was fixed in the frame, so you can find your favorite piece based on its individual color and pattern. HAPPY MARIN, who crafted the turban shell for this piece, washes and processes discarded shells from a fish market in Naha City, Okinawa. Beautiful objects are born from materials that might have been thrown away. Furthermore, they process the shells without using any chemicals that could damage the material. Turban shells have maintained their thousand-year radiance in treasures like those found in the Shosoin repository and in the mother-of-pearl inlay of Chuson-ji Konjiki-do, and have been traditionally believed to ward off evil. To ensure you can enjoy this piece for a long time, I have finished it without using any adhesives that might cause yellowing or peeling over time. The metal frame is tightened just enough to avoid scratching the turban shell, and it is secured with stainless steel wire threaded with pearls to prevent it from rattling within the frame. The pearls are Swarovski crystals, chosen in a pearlescent white that complements and enhances the color of the turban shell.
