Heorhiy Narbut was a Ukrainian artist, graphic designer, and one of the leading masters of Ukrainian Modernism. He is known for his book designs that depicted Ukrainian culture and history. Narbut designed the first Ukrainian currency and postage stamps and worked on the coat of arms of Ukraine. He was also one of the founders of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts and illustrated books, magazines, postcards, and labels. Ivan Trush was a Ukrainian Impressionist painter, graphic artist, and master of book graphics. He painted portraits of contemporaries such as Lesya Ukrainka, Franko, Hrushevskyi, and many others. Although he did not like painting portraits himself, he loved landscapes and traveled a lot around Ukraine and the world. Alla Horska was a Ukrainian artist, dissident, and member of the 1960s movement. Besides painting and graphics, she created monumental works and mosaics. Her stained-glass window at the Shevchenko Kyiv University was considered ideologically hostile and destroyed. Having been brought up speaking Russian, she consciously switched to Ukrainian. She became famous for her works reflecting social problems and dedicated to the history of Ukraine. Andriy, Malta, and Roman, IT specialists from Lviv, Ukraine, ordered a large quantity of socks from local manufacturers to supply soldiers with winter socks. During this time, they noticed that all the socks were plain in color and wondered, "Why not create more colorful and interesting patterned socks?" Upon consulting the sock factory, they were told that if they brought in their own ideas, they could indeed produce colorful and interesting patterned socks. This idea became the catalyst for launching a unique sock brand in November 2015, incorporating traditional Ukrainian patterns. All products by Dodo Socks are designed and manufactured in Ukraine. Their vibrant and unique designs gained immense popularity both domestically and internationally. In 2017, during a visit by a Ukrainian delegation to Canada, Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau expressed his fondness for vibrant socks, and Dodo Socks were presented to him. This further increased their popularity, leading to a partnership with the Rubizhne Stocking Manufactory in eastern Ukraine to increase production capacity, making it the main production facility. However, in May 2022, the factory was destroyed when Russian forces occupied Rubizhne. Despite this adversity, in June, 15 employees and their families relocated to Lviv in western Ukraine, rebuilt a new factory, and resumed production. Dodo Socks aims to spread Ukrainian culture worldwide while supporting local communities through the promotion of local industries and collaboration with local artists. In Japan, they began sales in December 2023 and have since opened temporary pop-up shops nationwide.
