Vintage Clip-on Cuff Earrings 1950s signed with Aurora Borealis crystals unique

The earrings are truly one of a kind collectible vintage jewelry! Very rare and unique! The shape of this vintage clip-on earrings is very special and reminds of modern day ear cuffs that cover not only a lobe but also a part of the ear’s edge. Each earring is adorned with three stylized flowers covered with shiny Aurora Borealis crystals. The history behind the creation of the "Northern Light" crystals: The idea of multicolored crystals belonged to Christian Dior, who wanted his ladies to shine literally from heads to toes. Dior used the Aurora Borealis crystals not only for jewelry but covered his New Look dresses with them. Manfred Swarovski, a son of the founder of Austrian Swarovski company, developed polychrome crystal technology in 1955. The crystals were covered with the very thin layer of metal oxides, creating an iridescent rainbow. A special skill was required to obtain crystals of specific unusual shades. For example, here the color changes from steel grey to blue and purple, depending on the light condition. The earrings are in very good vintage condition, totally wearable. However, like with all vintage jewelry there may be some age appropriate signs of time. Size: approximately 4 cm Weight: 12 g Signed: "PAT. PEND." - most probably the earrings are by Albert Weiss Co. well-known manufacturer of colorful crystal jewelry. It’s just my guess -I can’t prove it.
