Last week, I took a week-long holiday in Tokyo. Upon my return, I've had so many thoughts and feelings, and I really want to document them in writing. - This was my second trip to Japan. Last year, my visit to Osaka was incredibly impactful. The people of Osaka were so polite and friendly, making the entire journey comfortable and enjoyable. My experience in Tokyo this time felt quite different. Perhaps it was my own bad luck, but the staff I encountered were generally indifferent. It might also be that my expectations were too high, leading to disappointment when reality fell short. - At the airport, I asked a staff member about the bus routes to the city center. After a perfunctory response, I asked for clarification as I didn't quite understand. To my surprise, the staff member rolled their eyes dramatically, then gestured to the next customer, completely ignoring me. Honestly, I felt a bit embarrassed. - Another time, as I was walking on the subway platform, a Japanese woman rushed past me, bumping into my bag. She turned around, her eyes scanning me from head to toe with an intense, fierce gaze. Even though it wasn't I who bumped into her, I quickly apologized. But she let out a loud "tsk," and I still feel a pang of sadness recalling this incident. - Perhaps Tokyo has too many tourists, so many that locals feel annoyed and inconvenienced. Or maybe they've encountered rude travelers, leading them to harbor ill feelings towards all tourists. However, as a traveler, I simply wanted to enjoy a few days of happiness. - Our shop is in Central, and I don't need to tell you how many tourists there are. I admit, they can sometimes be bothersome. But having just experienced the feeling of being a tourist myself, I understand how disheartening it is to encounter such unfriendly looks from locals. A single glance can indeed ruin someone's entire trip. - But it's okay, this is also part of the experience. The most important thing when traveling is to embrace the local customs and human interactions.
