Hand-painted with natural urushi lacquer, each pen undergoes a meticulous 72-layer application and polishing process. This maturation and polishing, which develops a certain luster, requires 3-6 months of dedicated craftsmanship, followed by intricate hand-painting, stroke by stroke. The result is a pen with visible texture and depth, capturing the spirit and form of figures and animals with expressive, freehand strokes, distinct from conventional meticulous paintings. In addition to Master Amo's unique techniques, each stroke incorporates elements of Japanese Maki-e, allowing its natural grain to be appreciated. Unlike typical flat, uniform lacquer pens that lack visible brushwork, Old Goat's natural lacquer paintings reveal the texture of each individual stroke, outlining the subject with vibrant lines. Beyond serving as a static desktop ornament, it is a complete work of art. Striving for perfection, this is not a Japanese or Chinese product, nor does it use chemical coatings or printing. Old Goat opens a new realm for natural lacquer craftsmanship, forging a new path for natural lacquer fountain pens with innovative techniques. Through exquisite artistry, it redefines the aesthetic of fountain pens as both usable and collectible. A fountain pen is not merely for enjoying the warmth of handwriting and the smooth glide on paper; these natural urushi lacquer painted fountain pens are also artistic pieces for desktop display.

KAVALAN: 3952 Old Goat - Named after an ancient place name in Yilan, Taiwan, this premium natural lacquer calligraphy pen series features gray chrome electroplated pen clips and black reinforced polymer accessories with a special elastic clip design.
The nib is a specially tuned calligraphy titanium nib (ground and adjusted from an EF nib) by Old Goat. This custom nib was specifically requested from the German manufacturer, sized #250 (#6). It is then handcrafted and adjusted by Old Goat artisans to create a calligraphy nib capable of producing varied line widths, evoking the nuanced rhythm of traditional Chinese brush writing. It offers greater elasticity than standard titanium calligraphy nibs, allowing for richer line variation. The nib is engraved with the 3952 Jade Mountain characteristic logo, making it a treasured piece. (Possessing superior elasticity, this nib may present a learning curve for beginners. It is recommended for users who have experience with steel calligraphy nibs or standard titanium calligraphy nibs as an advanced option.) Should you require a different nib type, please consult with the designer via private message beforehand to confirm availability. (Note: Changing nib types will incur a price difference, which may increase or decrease.)

Hand-adjusted Calligraphy Nib:
1. For calligraphy nibs, it is generally recommended to dip the nib in ink and allow it to break in for a period before using a converter.
2. If ink flow is interrupted when using a converter, check the angle of your grip. Both iridium dots should land on the paper simultaneously; avoid writing with one side only. If ink flow is still interrupted, check if paper fibers or debris are stuck in the nib.
3. Remove the converter and try filling with ink via the piston mechanism.
4. Rinse the nib thoroughly. If writing with one iridium dot leading or applying excessive pressure, it can cause misalignment of the iridium dots, creating a height difference that scrapes the paper and accumulates debris in the slit.
5. The calligraphy nib is an EF nib adjusted to have a curved tip. Line width variation is achieved not by pressing down, but by the angle of your grip, utilizing the nib's curvature. Holding the pen more upright reduces the contact area with the paper, resulting in finer lines. The more the pen is tilted, the larger the contact area, producing broader lines. Achieving varying line widths depends on your dexterity and skill.
The custom-tuned titanium nib is a special request made by Old Goat to the German manufacturer, featuring the 3952 Jade Mountain logo. Its flexibility is softer and more elastic than a standard titanium nib, but it requires more precise control. The soft, elastic nature of this custom nib can tempt users to apply pressure, and if their technique is not refined, it can lead to ink flow interruption. This can happen if the user's grip angle is off or if they haven't fully familiarized themselves with the custom nib's behavior, potentially causing a temporary separation between the nib and the feed, hindering ink delivery to match the writer's speed and resulting in skips. If the writer's grip angle is inconsistent and pressure is applied, it can distort the ink channel, leading to poor ink flow. Therefore, this nib, being softer and more elastic, is less forgiving. It is recommended to first gain proficiency with steel or standard titanium calligraphy nibs before progressing to this custom-tuned option.

Note: Regularly wipe and maintain the inside of the pen body and cap. When storing the pen, avoid prolonged storage with the nib facing downwards.
Gentle Reminder: Do not press down on the nib while writing, nor write with it skewed to one side (for right-handed users, it is recommended to write with the nib pointing towards the 10 or 11 o'clock position) to prevent accidental misalignment of the iridium dots, which can cause scratching and ink skipping. Rinse the nib with clean water regularly to prevent ink buildup and blockages that may affect writing quality.
