When it comes to monogram patterns, LV is undoubtedly the most widely recognized. However, CELINE's monogram actually predates LV's!
CELINE's monogram dates back to the 1870s. After a long period of discontinuation, it was revived by the new creative director in recent years.
But in the fashion world, who came first is not always the most important factor. Look at how LV, despite its later debut, has dominated the monogram scene for so many years.
While CELINE's monogram is a true veteran, it's only in recent years, with the revival of its classic patterns, that it has gained widespread recognition.
Ultimately, every brand has its own monogram. It's essentially their signature logo. The choice simply comes down to personal preference.
Before its revival, Celine's monogram was considered a subtle gem in the pre-owned market, known for its classic pattern, diverse bag styles, and affordable prices. Sadly, those days are gone.
Since the reintroduction of new designs, the prices of virtually all monogram bags have been steadily increasing, with some styles that closely resemble new releases seeing a dramatic surge.
This has also drawn many who had never purchased pre-owned items into the vintage world, simply because of the allure of the monogram. A comparison often reveals why "new is not as good as old."
Celine's monogram truly embodies the saying "new is not as good as old." The level of detail in the pattern alone shows a significant difference.
The monogram pattern on the new releases appears enlarged, but the edges are noticeably blurred (perhaps by design!?).
With vintage Celine monogram, even under a magnifying glass, you won't find such fuzzy edges. This difference is also due to the evolution of design needs over time.
In recent years, brands have tended to enlarge their patterns, making them more prominent. It's either a large logo or a large brand name.
Celine is now part of the LV group, so the new designs we see have a unified, group-driven aesthetic.
There's a popular saying that "every pre-owned bag collector must have a Celine in their collection," because their vintage styles are so diverse, making it rare to encounter duplicates.
(Personally, I feel that new designs simply cannot compare to vintage pieces due to significant differences in craftsmanship and material quality. Complaints about the declining quality of new bags from major brands can easily be found online...)
This mini shell bag, after the mini boston, has unexpectedly captured my heart. The shell bag silhouette is a classic retro style.
It's not just Celine; you can find this shape from brands like LV and Gucci, a timeless design throughout the ages!
Celine offers its shell bags in various sizes, but the most charming is undoubtedly the mini version at 20cm, which is perfect for both tall and petite individuals!
The mini size is both cute and practical! Its capacity is sufficient for essential daily items, making it far from a "small useless bag."
It can hold a phone (even larger models), a medium-short wallet, keys, a cardholder, wet wipes, and hand sanitizer, with room to spare.
Another aspect I love about it is the coating on the monogram surface, which provides a degree of water resistance and excellent stain protection.
Minor splashes of water (heavy rain is another story – stay indoors during downpours!) or accidental spills can be easily wiped away with a paper towel or cloth!
For everyday use or for those who tend to be a bit rough with their belongings, a monogram bag is a great choice because it's truly convenient. The color and monogram pattern are versatile for all seasons!
In winter, pairing it with a long sweater or coat creates a lovely visual contrast in size. In spring and summer, it pairs effortlessly with tank tops, jeans, or dresses for a casual and convenient look!
I find the most appealing way to carry it is by hand; its small size is incredibly cute. It's lightweight, so you can carry it all day without feeling burdened. It's perfect for shopping, dining, or taking stylish photos! This bag is very popular among Korean influencers and is incredibly versatile! I have kept one for myself!

⚐⚑˒˒The bag is in very good condition. While not pristine, its overall appearance is excellent, and it doesn't look particularly worn when carried.
There are only minor signs of use. The protective coating on the surface is clean and intact, the monogram pattern is free of scratches or scuffs, and even the bottom shows no wear.
The vegetable-tanned leather base and handle areas have developed a natural, vintage honey-wax color. This is what makes vegetable-tanned leather so captivating.
It's worth noting that many newly released "retro" bags are intentionally dyed to mimic this honey-wax brown color using chemicals.
However, there's a significant difference. This natural color is the result of aging and wear, not direct dyeing. It truly tells a story of time!
A naturally aged brown color feels warm, and upon close inspection, you'll notice a subtle variation in depth. It will continue to evolve as you use it.
Even if you and a friend own the same bag style, the subtle color variations will make yours unique.
Dyed brown, on the other hand, is entirely different. It's a direct "dye" job, not a transformation over time.
Therefore, modern "retro" leather bags do not change color with use or over time; they remain the same brown for every owner.
Apologies for the digression. The bottom, edges, and corners of the bag show no peeling or deep marks, and the leather retains its natural luster.
While stains or darkening on the bottom or handles are common for this style, this one is immaculate. It boasts a beautiful honey-wax color.
The stitching on the handle is firm, and the edges show minor signs of use that are not noticeable. When carried, they don't detract from the overall appearance.
You might consider tying a scarf around it (a complimentary one will be included!) to completely conceal any marks and add a protective layer (and it looks great too).
The zipper on the top opening shows signs of use but functions smoothly. The zipper pull is a leather-made CELINE piece with a deep embossed pattern!
The interior lining is clean, with no issues of peeling or delamination. It has the brand's leather tag. There are small notches on the sides of the inner compartments;
they are usable but best suited for thin items like transit cards or key cards. The original shoulder strap is included and is in remarkably beautiful condition!
(Usually, the straps on this model show significant signs of aging.) It has only minimal signs of use, with a natural color and a lovely sheen.
Overall, the condition is excellent, and the bag looks very new when carried. The most significant flaw is minor scratches on the edge of the handle,
which can be covered by the included scarf (though it's barely noticeable, so you might not even need it). Aside from that, there are no other significant scratches or stains.

The shop owner's primary reason for loving pre-owned bags is that the materials from past eras are vastly superior to those used in modern new releases.
In the past, most pre-owned items were made by hand ✦, with the warmth of human touch rather than mass production.
The craftsmanship of artisans was far more refined than that of machines, much like how everyone appreciates handmade items created by skilled craftspeople!
However, today, the vast majority of production involves machinery with minimal human assembly, losing the meticulous detail of the past.
The simplest and most direct way to see this is by comparing the fine details of vintage Celine monograms with the newly released "revived" versions. The level of intricacy is entirely different. If you love monograms, seek out pre-owned pieces! Truly!
In terms of style, older designs were generally ✦ simpler, timeless, and enduring. Many current new designs are actually revivals of older styles.
However, new designs are priced higher than their vintage counterparts. New designs are typically based on older models, with added details or modifications.
The final product often ends up being more complex (or perhaps strange...) than the original older models. I believe that as we grow older, we realize one thing:
the simpler, the more enduring! As we age, our clothing choices often return to basic styles because the more fundamental, the more versatile.
The quality of materials in older pieces is superior to new ones. Anyone knowledgeable about ✦ leather can see that the materials used in new releases are generally of a lower grade than vintage ones.
This is mainly because the cost of high-quality materials is now too high, and their availability is limited compared to the past. Earth's resources are dwindling!
Furthermore, brands back then did not have the widespread presence they do today, with numerous branches everywhere. Their clientele typically had a certain level of income and high expectations for their purchases.
There was no "fast fashion" culture back then; a bag was expected to be used for many years.
The difference between new and old is clearly visible in the ✦ hardware. Many new bags' hardware oxidizes and discolors after just a year or two of use,
but vintage models rarely do. This is due to the superior materials and meticulous craftsmanship. In earlier eras, hardware was often plated with real K gold!
It's worth mentioning that Chanel Vintage is expensive for a reason; many of its clasps and chains contain real gold, certified by gold merchants!
This is why, even for vintage bags from the 60s and 70s, the hardware can still gleam today if properly maintained.
As for new models available today, from what I know, none of the brands use K gold in their hardware, which is why it oxidizes so easily.
Many people say that buying a vintage bag is a form of small investment, as they rarely depreciate and often increase in value.
This is because the number of well-preserved pre-owned bags on the market is dwindling, and each one lost is gone forever. Remember, each of these is a discontinued item.
The number existing in the world is finite, so they will only become rarer, more expensive, and harder to find.
Moreover, brands periodically increase their prices, and each increase drives up the prices in the pre-owned market.
If a brand releases a "reissue," the prices of vintage reference models or similar styles will skyrocket!
Adding to this, in recent years, Japanese and Korean celebrities have favored vintage items. Once a particular style is seen on a celebrity, its price can surge dramatically.
During such periods, many people will frantically search for that style or a similar alternative, causing the prices of those specific models to multiply...
Therefore, with vintage items, it's truly a case of "buy early, enjoy longer; buy late, pay more" (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's a truth in the pre-owned world...).
This is based on my personal experience; I regret not acquiring certain series earlier, as they are now either impossible to find or available only at exorbitant prices...
But the problem is, even knowing the price is exorbitant, you feel compelled to buy because waiting will only mean higher prices (unless the condition is poor).
I am often asked about bag maintenance (ᐢ.ˬ.ᐢ). Detailed instructions will be included in a small note inside the bag, so don't worry.
My personal habit is to give my bags a thorough cleaning and maintenance when I organize my closet at the change of seasons (which makes seasonal tidying a major undertaking...|||).
Actually, pre-owned bags aren't that troublesome. When you're new to it, you just need to get used to regular maintenance and cherishing your bag. Once it becomes a habit, it's not difficult.
The materials of pre-owned bags are inherently excellent. As long as you don't use them roughly and store them properly, they can easily last another ten years and be passed down to your daughter!
Every pre-owned bag I collect is one I genuinely love, so I hope you will love it too and preserve it for years to come ☪︎ *.。
