A Truck Driver's Day - Natural Cotton & Linen Pocket Handmade Long Wide Pants

His summer essential was to freeze a whole can of iced tea in the freezer, and the next day, he'd carry the PET bottle with ice cubes, keeping it by his side to last the whole day. His undershirt would get wet and dry, dry and wet again. When moving was required, he'd be fully equipped with a towel, a trolley, and his strength. Sweat would dry and then spray, spray and then dry, a truly arduous task. His most frequent lunch spot was the convenience store, usually a toast and a can of coffee. When he couldn't find parking, he'd eat it in the truck, wolfing it down before the next trip. If he could park, I imagine he'd get out, stand by the convenience store entrance, devour his meal, and then continue his journey. He worked very hard. After 31 years, he raised five "stars" – his children. This year, he finally retired. He is my father. :) Once, out of boredom, I was looking through his (due to frugality) scarce collection of receipts and found a stack of identical receipts for toast, bread, and canned coffee, totaling NT$45. That's why I drew coffee beans, big and real, one after another. The first time I touched this raw, undyed natural cotton and linen, I thought of my father's hands. They have rough parts and smooth parts. The rough parts are his palms, and the smooth parts are his responsible heart. My father became a truck driver the year I was born, as there were so many "stars" to care for. This year, facing declining physical strength and wanting to retire from the heavy burden of being the head of the household, he found himself with many conflicting and reluctant emotions. I can feel it, which is why I've drawn these simple, relatable patterns, hoping to share this story with you.
