"Wuhua Cave: Subduing the Demons" was a production from the GuoGuang Opera Company's New Year's Eve performance in 2011, part of their "Classic Comedy" series. I didn't have the chance to see the performance live, but I remember seeing the lineup of *huadan* (young female roles) in the promotional materials for "Classic Comedy." Their expressions and movements were so amusing! That's what inspired me to draw them. [Synopsis] Legend has it that Wuhua Cave is a dwelling place for demons. One year, during a drought, Wu Dalang and his wife Pan Jinlian set out to visit Wu Song's brother in Yanggu County. Along the way, they encountered demons from Wuhua Cave who transformed into the likeness of Wu Dalang and his wife, leading to a tangled situation. Even when brought before the magistrate, distinguishing the real from the fake proved impossible. Coincidentally, Bao Gong was passing through the area. Upon questioning, he too struggled to discern the truth. Fortunately, Celestial Master Zhang from Longhu Mountain arrived and subdued the demons with his magical artifacts.
