Deeply regretful upon understanding the situation, Shiva dispatched his soldiers to find the first creature they saw sleeping with its head facing north, and to bring its head back. The first animal encountered by the soldiers was an elephant. They beheaded it and brought the head back. Shiva then attached the elephant's head to the boy, revived him, granted him an army, bestowing upon Ganesha supreme military power and authority, along with blessings. Another account suggests that the child was born shortly after Shiva went to war. From birth, he possessed divine power and was exceptionally strong. One day, while the Goddess was bathing, she instructed him to guard the entrance to prevent others from peeking, leading to Shiva's later misunderstanding.
