**This is a book with a distinct scent, one that you'll want to keep smelling once you open it.**
Cooking chicken feet at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris, serving noodles to museum visitors, scrubbing a fish head with a toothbrush, living alongside undocumented immigrants in New York's Chinatown, waking up to the smell of marijuana smoke at Burning Man, taking your first bite of glistening bird's nest from Xiyuantang in Dihua Street, inhaling the sulfuric scent of Beitou hot springs... all these aromas are captured within these pages.

"Shipbuilding Creative Magazine" is an independently published arts and culture journal that presents as a "paper exhibition," drawing inspiration from humanity's five senses. It curates works and creative stories from various fields around the globe. Each issue focuses on a single sense, integrating painting, photography, installation art, writing, music, architecture, film, and even food, travel, and everyday life.
The founders of "Shipbuilding Creative Magazine" are Taiwanese artists who met in New York. Living and creating together in a foreign land, they use the collective concept of a "ship" to invite creators from diverse fields to come aboard and share their experiences. It serves as a cross-disciplinary paper exhibition and a hub for exchanging ideas. Through collaboration and exchange, it helps clarify the lost aspects of the creative process and sparks even more remarkable inspirational energy.

**Foreword:**
Scents exist in the world in a formless manner. They lack collective objectivity yet freely enter and exit the human body, interacting with us with an omnipresent capriciousness as we inhale the air. In life, there are often unpleasant, pungent off-smells, much like societal anomalies that, while intangible, possess a powerful exclusivity. The moment off-smells collide might be uncomfortable, but as the scent molecules diffuse, they invisibly influence the entire environment and the people within it. Over time, perhaps they no longer seem unpleasant.
Following its inaugural issue, the Tactile Issue—"Soft—Here Everyone Has to Shed Their Tough Outer Skin"—"Shipbuilding Creative Magazine" encourages you and me to take a deep whiff of the scents around us. These are smells that truly exist in life, possessing a unique and peculiar deviation from the norm. They are like certain marginalized anomalies in society, existing yet easily overlooked or normalized. This is what we aim to discuss in the Olfactory Issue: "Off-Smells."
