Vegetable-tanned leather is known for its firm and durable texture. In Taiwan's early days, before the widespread availability of plastic, many items were crafted from this material, such as drive belts for early sewing machines, bicycle saddle seats, and accessories for rural and military use. https://www.dozi.com.tw/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/websiteimg-0007.jpg A characteristic of vegetable-tanned leather is how its color deepens over time due to the interaction of the plant tannins with air and sunlight. The surface color gradually darkens. Combined with the natural oils from your hands and the friction from daily use, it develops a lustrous patina. This allows leather goods made from vegetable-tanned leather to transform uniquely with time and the user's habits. Leather is a byproduct of the livestock industry. Therefore, farmers do not pay special attention to protecting the cattle's skin. As a result, cattle may acquire scars from insect bites, scratches, or thorns during their lives. Free-roaming cattle might also bear brands. As they grow, they develop natural lines and wrinkles. In cases of difficult births, there might be surgical scars from C-sections. When the cattle are eventually processed for meat, the skinning process can also leave knife marks. These marks are faithfully preserved on the leather when it is transformed into cowhide, serving as a record of the animal's life. The resulting text will appear as a charred black mark. Therefore, this service cannot be applied to dark-colored leathers such as black, dark blue, etc. ▴ Some products require laser engraving before production. For in-stock items that have already been made, laser engraving cannot be applied, and a separate production schedule will be arranged. Please contact customer service to inquire about production times when selecting this service. 🌞 Care and Maintenance -------------------- Frequent use is the best form of maintenance. Avoid storing leather in humid environments. If the leather accidentally gets wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and let it air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to harden and deteriorate. Once dry, you can apply leather conditioning oil to replenish the leather's natural oils. You can also spray a waterproofing agent onto the surface to protect against accidental spills and enhance surface protection. If the leather item needs to be stored or will not be used for an extended period, place it in an electronic dehumidifying cabinet, maintaining humidity between 50%-60% to prevent mold. Alternatively, a sealed bag with a desiccant pack can achieve similar results. Repairs and maintenance can be done at our store. Except for human-induced damage, no repair fees will be charged. After one year, free leather maintenance will still be provided, and a nominal fee will be charged for repairs. 5. Our studio prefers to use natural leather materials. Cowhide will naturally have some color variations, textures, and minor scratches, as it does not undergo excessive processing or heavy surface coatings. If you require a perfectly flawless leather surface, it may be difficult for us to accommodate your request, and we regret that we cannot accept requests for "flawless leather." Furthermore, once personalized with engraving or laser carving, returns will not be accepted unless there was a production error.
