Puhofield black sugar 70g | A small, portable size for everyday drinks, travel, or a quick touch of sweetness in cooking. Easy to carry for one person: hiking, camping, fishing at sea and other outdoor trips. Eat a piece straight from the pack, or add it to coffee, hot drinks and sweet soups. This pack is not meant for stocking up; keep it in your bag, office or car for when you want a little sweetness and the aroma of sugarcane. [How it is made] We take the first press of Taiwanese sugarcane juice, filter it clear, and simmer it slowly over a wood fire. What you taste is the aroma of the cane and the land it grew in, not sweetness used to cover the flavour. The cane is grown in southern Taiwan by local producers we work with under contract. They use no herbicides and farm in an environment-friendly way, letting the cane take in the warm winter sun and turn it into sugar. The fields are also a refuge for fireflies; on summer nights they show that farming and nature can share the same ground. The juice is pressed and boiled the traditional way, slowly over longan wood. No colouring is added, so the sugar is not unnaturally dark. As it cools it has to be stirred by hand so it does not set into large blocks, which leaves a mix of irregular lumps and granules. The colour is not too dark and the taste is not overly sweet, with the aroma of sugarcane and a natural caramel note. [How to use] Eat a piece as it is with warm water or tea, or dissolve it in hot water, black tea, coffee, milk or ginger tea. It also works in braises and everyday cooking in place of ordinary sugar. Adjust the amount to taste. [Choosing a size] 70g is for carrying with you, short-term or outdoor use; 150g suits a two-person household or light daily use; 300g is for family use, regular drinks and cooking. All three use the same cane and the same process; only the amount and the occasion differ. There is also a 45g ginger black sugar, boiled from Taiwanese ginger juice and sugarcane juice. [Ingredients] Taiwanese sugarcane, food-grade lime, peanut oil. Food-grade lime clarifies the sugarcane juice by helping impurities clump so they can be filtered out. [Allergen information] Peanut oil is used in production. If you are allergic to peanuts, please take note. [Pesticide residue testing] Puhofield black sugar is regularly sent to a third-party laboratory for pesticide residue testing. In July 2025 the test covered 410 pesticide residues, with the result "not detected (N.D.)". Results apply only to the samples tested.
