Bendaoshe is a printing design studio. Bendao means "this island,” the one we live on, small but full of warmth. Our goal is to have everyday products reflect Taiwanese culture, so as to raise cultural awareness among the public. Each of our patterns aims to represent a personal quality, such as cheerfulness, calm, modesty, or maturity. A poem that embodies the quality accompanies all of our products, offering the items utility and a human touch. We select patterns that complement the items that feature them, keeping in mind the unique qualities of each product to make the most appropriate pairing. For example, a lively hue is applied to stationery for younger generations; low-key and elegant earth tones are applied to bags or apparel for working people and professionals. The materials used in our textile products are all made in Taiwan. To ensure quality and to support underprivileged groups in the community, all needlework is done by the women of the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families in Hualien and Yilan. Our apparel designs and materials were decided on after extensive trials and revisions. We eventually chose a double-layer cotton commonly used in infant clothing. The fabric is breathable through two layers and has high opacity, which prevents undergarments from being revealed.
