Chawan

This large tea bowl was wheel thrown from my small rooftop studio where I am now writing this description. I look out at the Yamingshan Mountains and draw in a breath. This chawan was made from Japanese porcelain and then an originally mixed up glaze was applied. All my glazes are food safe. I attempted to made a nice classic tea bowl form with slight undulations that give the piece some variation and movement. I love making tea bowls as each seem to take on their own personality and character. My seal is stamped at the base near the trimmed foot ring. I make pottery to hopefully add pleasure to someone's daily life. That is the feeling that motivated me to create functional items out of clay.
